thumbnail IMG 2980The 2025 AAML National Family Law Conference, held from May 15–17 in Dallas, was an “ah-ha” moment I did not know I needed. It came at the right time and offered tangible skills and insight that I was able to implement and use on my active cases (before I even left the conference). I was impressed by the knowledge and encouragement that I received from seasoned veterans, as well as their willingness to stay connected once the conference ended.

The main conference commenced with a session on developing age-appropriate parenting plans, followed by discussions on negotiating prenuptial agreements and sharing practical tips from experienced family law attorneys.

A key highlight was the session on adapting the practice of law to work more efficiently with tools like artificial intelligence. The speakers were passionate about how family law practitioners could be implementing this technology while maintaining our ethical duties of confidentiality related to client matters. As a matter of practice, in drafting this article I put those skills to the test by practicing different ways to generate prompts to help me capture my experience.

Additional sessions covered strategies for modernizing law firms, leadership within the firm, and the importance of diversity in family law. These discussions provided attendees with innovative tools and strategies to navigate the evolving landscape of family law.

Lastly, the event also emphasized the significance of networking, offering opportunities for professionals to connect and share experiences, thereby fostering a collaborative environment for growth and learning. It was comforting to be in good company with the contingence of Minnesota family law community, but ultimately I was able to leave my comfort zone and meet attorneys from coast to coast. This was a great experience, and I highly recommend associates to attend future conferences.
