Journey Center for Safety and Healing, Cleveland, Ohio
Journey Center for Safety and Healing provides information and services for domestic violence and more. Through education, advocacy and systematic change, this organization fosters safety, guidance and healing for those affected by child abuse and domestic violence. Journey Center for Safety and Healing’s approach and mission are to help break the cycle of violence and to empower people to find a path toward healthy, thriving relationships.
This AAML Foundation grant will support Journey’s Safe & Sound Visitation Center (SSVC), which is the leading supervised visitation center in Northeast Ohio, providing the safety and security recommended by the U.S. Department of Justice’s Guiding Principles for Safe Havens: Supervised Visitation and Safe Exchange. This program helps facilitate over 1,100 visits and safe exchanges each year, and SSVC supports vulnerable children whose families have been splintered by violence, abuse or neglect. SSVC is the only free, not-for-profit provider in the county able to comply with mandated visitation and protect children’s safety.
The Mediation Center of the Coastal Empire, Savannah, Georgia
The Mediation Center of the Coastal Empire’s mission is to harness the power of volunteers to support community and individual conflict education, prevention and resolution services. Through visionary, collaboration, inclusivity, integrity, accountability and teamwork, The Mediation Center of the Coastal Empire focuses on teaching proper conduct, communicating clearly with peers and how to build consensus among a team.
This AAML Foundation grant will support the High Conflict Parenting Class, a skills-based class for managing conflict among co-parenting couples. The Mediation Center of the Coastal Empire’s program objectives are to promote effective communication skills among high-conflict co-parenting couples, and to reduce the conflict cycle and replace it with healthy and positive co-parenting. By empowering all family members to develop proper communication before conflict escalates to the extreme, The Mediation Center of the Coastal Empire hopes to proactively provide the necessary strategies, tools and methods to teach and instill effective communication.
